Scenes of Swindon

Even though I'm now in Germany, I wanted to share a few scenes from Swindon, England, where I spent four happy days last week (and many happy days in previous years).

Maidenhead, outside of London (not actually Swindon, but still beautiful). Really, why can't American houses be named things like "Bramble Cottage"?

Looking down our street.

Looking out my window -- across the street and over the city.

Downtown.

The same -- looking the opposite direction.

Swans on the lower Lawn Lake. The Lawns is the name of a park just down the road from our house. It is the former grounds of the Swindon Manor House owned by the Goddard family (up until WWII times).

Lawn Lake (lower -- there is also an upper lake).

The Lawns -- looking towards the old ice building.

A view of the city from The Lawns.

The old ice storage building on The Lawns. This is where ice was stored all through the year in the days before refrigerators and freezers.

The Chapel of the Manor House. It is the only complete building left from the Manor.

A pigeon. :)

Inside the old Swindon church (Church of England, I believe).

A typical old English pub -- The Roaring Donkey (I've never been there, but the sign was adorable).

Our church -- the Salvation Army, Swindon Citadel (our new building!).

My home away from home.
